Vol. 3 (2018): SMART #3 - Seminar on Architecture Research & Technology
Seminar on Architecture Research & Technology (SMART) is an annual seminar by Faculty of Architecture and Design, Duta Wacana Christian University. The third SMART (SMART #3) is scheduled to be held on November 16-17, 2018 in Duta Wacana Christian University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This seminar was established to promote communication between professionals, governments, academics, and communities about topics related to architecture and built environment.
The theme of SMART #3 is LOCAL GENIUSES: Generate Future Design. The theme was based on understanding that the wealth of history and knowledge from the past owned by each region or community is a valuable thing. It may have the form of intangible knowledge but applied on some physical object. In some cases, this wealthiness can be so unique that create an identity of a locality. This uniqueness and identity worth as an exchange value in a way to upgrade the community well-being.
However, in this modern era, local uniqueness from the past has slowly faded. As the world change with the rapid development of transportation and technology, universality has increased. This condition causes cultural assimilation between modern lifestyle and local culture that can scrape local identity from a community. Therefore, without the society‘s concern and awareness to preserve their wealth of knowledge, it will vanish.
SMART #3 aims to be one of the media to collect and share this community information from the past and present as a basic data to determine the position of our cognition as a result of the adaptation of humankind. This knowledge can be base of wise strategies decision for the future.
The general objective of this seminar is to framing up the history and local genius knowledge in many places, so it will become the basis to determine the position of knowledge as a result of human adaptation that has been known in the present. This knowledge will be the source for determining better future strategies.
